TEA PARTY DOESN’T HOLD ANY OFFICES
AT THE FIRST READING I WAS AMUSED by the letter written by your reader, Sharon Connor. Her detailed assault seemed to blame everything bad that has happened in her lifespan on the Tea Party: Then I remembered, while it is a political organization that promotes conservative values in all political parties, the Tea Party has no incumbents serving in city, state, or national government. With this in mind, the many problems she tries to deal with must be the fault of the two major political parties, the Democrats and Republicans. The Tea Party had no vote on taxes, health care or anything else which is driving our country down. Working with fiscally-responsible members of all parties, one of the main goals of the organization is to restore our country to its rightful place in the world.
The writer asks in her first sentence for “Someone to please explain what the Party stands for.” I wish to offer the following information for her benefit and others who might be misguided by questionable sources: The mission of the East Mountain Tea Party is to attract, educate, organize and mobilize our fellow citizens to create a culture and government landscape that reflects the vision of our Founding Fathers as set forth in the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights. As a nonpartisan group of like-minded Americans, and New Mexicans, we embrace small and limited government, capitalism, free markets, personal responsibility and freedom. We will work to provide the opportunities and tools needed to empower our members to achieve our goals. We also encourage citizens of all races, creeds, and political parties to participate in our activities. We do not ask you to change your party membership. We do ask you to hold your elected representatives accountable for their actions!
For those who are interested in helping us (including your readers) find “American Solutions to our country’s problems and learning more about this organization, we invite you to attend our next meeting at the Lion’s Club in Moriarty on Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. Hoping to see Ms. Connor there!
